“I’m not good at sport.”
“I couldn’t do that, I am useless at writing.”
“I could never sell, I don’t have the gift of the gab.”

Sound familiar? Do you talk yourself out of things you want to do or something you would like to achieve before you even get started? This is what happens when you have limiting beliefs.

You don’t have to even say these thoughts out loud – or even to anyone else. Our mind-chatter – our thoughts – can be incredibly powerful. And you may not realise just how much of an influence they can have. Having negative thoughts about yourself and your abilities can affect your reality.

It’s not always easy to get out of this mindset either. And that’s where we come in. As a business coach, we find that some of our business clients need a lot of support to change their beliefs. We challenge, encourage and support our clients every step of the way as they are guided to the place where they can achieve their full potential.

What is a limiting belief?

So what is a limiting belief? Well it’s a belief you have that just isn’t true. Perhaps you think – I am an admin person – or accountant or whatever your main job is. This limits you from expanding your skillset into being a business owner, a singer, or whatever else you may aspire to.

Perhaps you have very set rules about what you must or mustn’t do each day. If you feel you ‘must’ clean your house every day, will that stop you having time to start work on your business ideas?

How often do you say ‘I can’t’? This really holds you back. Maybe you can’t play the piano – don’t limit yourself. Just think – ‘but if I had lessons I could play an instrument’.

Do you think ‘I am not smart’ or ‘I am no good at art’? These are thoughts that limit you – turn it around – ‘that was not a smart thing to do’ or ‘that picture didn’t turn out as well as I had hoped.’ Thinking like this allows hope for the next time, an opportunity to change and to learn, rather than stopping you from ever doing anything artistic again or trying anything that may need you to be ‘smart’.
